How to Style Hair with Our Hair Pins

A Real-Time, Hands-On Guide from MerCurios

Some moments aren’t polished—they’re true. This short, unfiltered video captures one of those moments: I handed a fellow artist my phone to film as I quickly demonstrated how to put your hair up using one of my handcrafted hair pins. No script, no retakes—just the real rhythm of creating and wearing something made with care.

Whether you're new to hair pins or looking for a refresher, consider this your starting point. Below, I’ve expanded on the styling with step-by-step guidance to help you explore more ways to wear your piece with ease and intention.

Ways to Style Your Hair with a MerCurios Hair Pin

Each of these styles can be created using just one handcrafted pin—no elastics, no heat—just a few intentional movements and your own rhythm.

1. The Classic Chignon

A timeless, low-twist bun that balances structure and softness.

How-to:

  • Gather your hair into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck.

  • Twist the length upward, letting it coil into itself.

  • Tuck the ends under and secure with your pin, weaving it through the bun and the base layer of hair.

Tip: Angling the pin slightly while inserting adds extra hold.

2. The Half-Up Twist

Effortless and elegant—a beautiful in-between style.

How-to:

  • Take small sections from both sides of your head.

  • Twist them back and cross them at the center.

  • Insert the pin horizontally or at a slight angle to secure the twist.

Tip: Works especially well with textured or second-day hair.

3. The Messy Bun

Relaxed, organic, and perfectly undone.

How-to:

  • Loosely gather your hair into a bun—high or low.

  • Wrap and twist without overthinking it.

  • Secure with your pin by sliding it through the bun and into the base.

Tip: Let a few strands fall naturally—imperfection adds charm.

4. The French Twist

A sleek, classic style with vintage allure.

How-to:

  • Gather your hair and twist it upward, tucking the ends inside the roll.

  • Hold the twist against your head.

  • Insert the pin vertically into the seam, catching both the rolled and base hair.

Tip: A bit of texturizing spray can help the pin grip more securely.

A Few Notes on Fit + Feel

  • Designed for all hair types: Whether fine, thick, straight, or coiled, our pins are made to work with your texture—not against it.

  • The first try isn’t the final word: Styling with a pin is a practice, not a performance. Let it be intuitive.

  • Feel it, don’t force it: Each pin is made to sit comfortably—when placed just right, it feels like it's meant to be there.
