Summer Solstice and the Meadow Within
Blessed Summer Solstice. 🔆🌻⛱️🏺
The Summer Solstice arrived a few days ago, bringing with it a kind of golden stillness I’m still carrying with me...
There are days that stretch beyond the ordinary — when the light feels thick and golden, and time folds a little. The Solstice is one of those days.
This year, I found myself returning to a favorite passage from The Egyptian Book of the Dead:
The lotus grows quietly in the garden pool. The ibis curls one foot beneath him and blinks. It is too nice a day to spoil with words. In the wind I hear what I see — a low hum of vitality, the bell of flowers ringing. I pass in and out of time, eons press against my skin. I rest in a place within a place, a meadow of myself that is the world pressing close. The river flows on. Talk, thin reeds rock against the current, and the wind like a woman envelopes me.
— “A Field of Flowers,” Egyptian Book of the Dead
There’s something timeless about that description — the merging of inner stillness and outer light. That’s what this season feels like to me: vitality without rush. Beauty without need for explanation. Presence that transcends time.
I happened to be wearing one of my mood necklaces that day — a handcrafted modern relic that seemed to mirror my energy moment by moment. The hues shifted with the sun, catching the warm tones of a Long Island sunset. It's always a little mesmerizing, watching the color transform. The stone reminds me that we do, too.
Sometimes the only real ritual needed is to pause, feel the sun on your skin, and listen to what the wind is trying to say.
