A Little Memory from the Holtsville Ecology Site
If you grew up on Long Island, chances are you’ve spent a day (or many) at the Holtsville Ecology Site. 🐢🌿
Our family has been visiting for 19 years. When my son was little, it was one of our go-to spots. Over the years, we’ve wandered the trails, peeked in on the animals, and stopped at the playground more times than I can count. I’ve even been back recently on school field trips, watching the next generation experience the same magic.
This little 30-second video is from two years ago — just me and my son spending the day together. At the time, I never thought it would end up being a piece of history. Last week, Brookhaven Town announced that the site will be shutting down.
It’s bittersweet — so many families (ours included) have lasting memories here. While I haven’t been as often in recent years, I’m grateful we had almost two decades of visits and moments.
👉 You can watch the video below (from my YouTube channel) for a small glimpse of what the Holtsville Ecology Site meant to us.

This space is an open journal of sorts—where stories, symbols, and small moments gather. Some entries trace the creative process, others reflect on inspiration found in nature, history, or daily life. All are woven with the same intent: to offer a glimpse behind the relics and the meanings they carry.

Our family has been visiting the Holtsville Ecology Site for 19 years — from weekend walks and playground stops to recent class trips. With the town announcing its closure, I wanted to share a small memory and a short video from two years ago that captures a piece of what made it special. 🌿
