Remembering Stony Brook’s Grist Mill
A Bracelet for the Mill
I’m honored to share a quiet tribute that’s been in the works — a limited-edition bracelet created in memory of the historic Stony Brook Grist Mill, which was lost to a storm in August of last year.
For over 300 years, the mill stood watch over the creek — its iconic water wheel turning beside the trail, its weathered beams holding stories of generations gone by. This bracelet is a nod to that presence — a wearable remembrance of place, of history, of home.
Stony Brook Grist Mill Bracelet
A Stamp Made from Memory
At the center of the design is something especially close to my heart — a custom metal stamp I had created from one of my personal photographs of the mill. I worked with ImpressArt, a local manufacturer right here on Long Island, to bring the image to life in metal.
The stamped mill is flanked by the exact GPS coordinates of where it stands:
41.7447° N, 70.1126° W — a way to mark the map, even now.
From Flat Metal to Modern Relic
Each bracelet begins as a flat strip of sterling silver, carefully stamped by hand and then shaped, polished, and finished in my studio. The process is simple, but slow — just the way I like it. Every curve carries intention. Every mark holds meaning.
This is more than just jewelry — it’s a quiet keepsake. A way to carry the memory of a place long after the structure is gone.
What Still Lingers
For now, I’m sharing the bracelet first — a limited release, made slowly and with care.
While the mill itself still stands, the road and dam that once framed it were washed away in the storm, leaving the landmark quiet and unreachable — held in place, yet suspended in time.
This piece is a way of remembering — not just what was lost, but what still lingers.
The bracelet will be available in mid-October, early-November just in time for the holiday season. If it speaks to you, stay connected — I’ll be sharing updates, more photos, and the official release date soon.
Thank you for being here.
And for remembering with me.
